The Fishes of Darya’s Hair

Installation with moving image projection and miniature architectural structures, 2024

This installation centres on Darya, a character whose name means “sea” in Persian. Within the projected animation she inhabits a vibrant world where she sings and moves freely, her flowing hair becoming a metaphor for freedom and imagination.

In front of the projection stand sculptural models of contemporary houses. Their clean, modern facades appear calm and well maintained, yet they conceal unseen interior tensions. The work explores the contrast between appearance and reality, inviting viewers to look beyond surfaces and consider the complex social conditions surrounding women’s lives in contemporary Iran.
